The Link Between ‘Prometheus’ And ‘Alien’ Is Revealed

Fans of the “Alien” franchise have been wondering about the connection between Ridely Scott’s sci-fi classic and the directors upcoming space-epic “Prometheus” since the current project’s inception. Many will recall that “Prometheus” began as an “Alien” prequel and then transformed, throughout the course of the scritpting and pre-production phase, into its own entity that is simply “set in the same universe as ‘Alien.’

In a recent interview with a Hungarian news outlet, however, Scott provided some details about the exact nature of the connection between the films as well as actor Guy Pearce’s role.

“When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made, I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies,” Scott said. “This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship.

The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland, and is played by Guy Pearce. That’s the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well.”

Ridley Scott directs a cast that includes Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron.

“Prometheus: hits AMC theaters on June 8th.

Noomi Rapace Talks ‘Prometheus’

Information about director Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi drama “Prometheus” has slowly been making its way to the public.

The film was originally described as a sequel to Scott’s sci-fi masterpiece “Alien,” then it was described and an entirely original work, and finally it was revealed that it would take place in the same universe as the “Alien” films, but was not directly related to the characters and storylines in those films.

“Prometheus” star Noomi Rapace recently spoke with the Norwegian newspaper Aften Posten about her character Elizabeth Shaw, and the connection she feels to the original “Alien” film and its lead Sigourney Weaver.

Rapace describes her character thusly:

“I play Elizabeth Shaw, researcher and archaeologist. She’s British but was raised in Africa because her father was a missionary. From him she learned to believe in God, and she has a strong inner self.

She is the most complete person I have ever played. She has an inner light. She’s very stubborn and determined.

She lost her parents when she was a child, so she’s been alone from a young age. But she’s very intelligent. I know that when one has to survive alone from an early age, one becomes strong.

But also fragile, because the hurt child within her hasn’t been able to evolve in a natural way. You get easily hurt emotionally. She’s full of hope, a dreamer, a little naive.”

The actress adds that mid-way through the film circumstances demand that she become a bit of a warrioress and that, “Another part of her comes to life.”

“I saw Alien as a teenager and was blown away,” Rapace said when asked about Weaver’s iconic portrayal of Ripley. “Can it really be like that? She was the first female star. With “Alien” and “Thelma & Louise,” Ridley has created a lot of hope and dreams.”

Updated ‘Prometheus’ Synopsis

An updated synopsis for director Ridley Scott’s upcoming sci-fi drama “Prometheus” has become available. The project has been wrapped in an air of mystery since its inception. The film was originally pitched as a prequel to Scott’s classic sci-fi/horror “Alien,” then later the director said the film was an original tale rather than a prequel.

More recently it has been described it as a companion film that it takes place within the same universe as the “Alien” franchise, but is not directly related to the original series.

The new, brief, synopsis teases a bit about the plot of the film, but does not confirm or deny its connection to the universe that Ripley and her team/s inhabited.
