A new image of the Hulk in Joss Whedon’s “The Avengers” illustrates how the production has adjusted the CGI to reflect Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner. New ‘The Avengers’ Featurette

As we approach the May 4th release of Joss Whedon’s ensemble comic-book adventure “The Avengers” the marketing for the film will continue to take on new facets of the enterprise.

Marvel has released a new featurette which outlines their history as a studio, the characters they have brought to the big screen thus far and how this will all tie together in “The Avengers.”

Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) come together for a big-screen franchise team-up like no other. Show runner Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly) adapted and helmed the script by Zak Penn, which focuses on a superhero lineup put together by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) to combat a hostile force out to destroy the world. Scarlett Johansson once again dons the Black Widow costume, with Jeremy Renner stepping into the role of ace archer Hawkeye. Tom Hiddleston also returns as Thor’s ever-deceptive brother, Loki.

“The Avengers” opens in AMC IMAX 3D and 2D theaters on May 4.

Joss Whedon directs a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård and Samuel L. Jackson.

‘The Avengers’ Joss Whedon Talks Iron Man’s Suit

Joss Whedon is busy in the final stages of post-production for Marvel’s epic ensemble “The Avengers.” In the interim, he is giving periodic interviews about the upcoming horror film “Cabin in the Woods,” which he co-wrote with director Drew Goddard.

In one such interview, Empire Magazine asked Whedon about Iron Man’s new suit (something that has caused a bit of a stir among fans) in “The Avengers.” There have been images of the character with both the circular and triangle shaped power source in the middle of his suit.

The director explained that there will be more than one suit in the film as “they get a bit of wear and tear” throughout the course of Iron Man’s journey in the story.

“Marvel said, ‘We like to see the suits evolve,’” Whedon explained in the interview, “and I said, “Great! Then you’re going back to the circle because the triangle is a**’. I’m a classicist. The circle has meaning, the triangle does not.”

“The Avengers” opens in AMC 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on May 4th.

New ‘The Avengers’ Poster!

A new poster has been released for Marvel’s epic ensemble piece “The Avengers,” which as you can see by the second poster will be called “Avengers Assemble” in the UK.

I’m not certain what the slight title differential buys for a British audience, it may just be a matter of clarifying that this is (at least in part) the story of the team coming together.

Synopsis via Fandango:

Marvel Studios delivers the ultimate comic-book film, which ties together such characters as Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) for a big-screen franchise team-up like no other. Cobie Smulders On ‘The Avengers’

Cobie Smulders provided some details about her time working on ‘The Avengers’ on the latest ‘How I Met Your Mother’ podcast.
The actress plays Maria Hill in the epic comic-book ensemble and is signed on for seven more Marvel movies in addition to “The Avengers.”

“This doesn’t mean I’m doing seven films,” the actress clarified. “(It) just means if they like me, then they’ll have me on more.”

“The Avengers” is by far the largest film that Smulders has been a part of to date and the sheer scale of the set took the actress by storm when she first arrived to shoot in New Mexico.

“The Avengers” is by far the largest film that Smulders has been a part of to date and the sheer scale of the set took the actress by storm when she first arrived to shoot in New Mexico.

“I had no idea what it was gonna be like at all. I was so happy to see a friendly face in (director) Joss Whedon because I know him socially. - But [the film] was huge; the magnitude of it. I mean, just the amount of people it takes to make a film like this and move out to Albuquerque, New Mexico; People were working on the movie almost seven months before I arrived there.”

As to her working relationship with Whedon, Smulders describes it as:

“A dream.”

Saying:

“It was very handy to work with him because I was very intimated. There were a lot of extremely talented, very famous, people working on this film. And I felt very green. And he was so kind to me and I really feel he brought out the best in me performance wise. I really went in there going like, ‘I will do whatever you want me to do Sir.’”

Though she does not participate in the most intense action sequences in the film, Smulders did do some training in preparation for her role.

“I hired this amazing black-ops trainer to teach me how to hold a gun, take me to a shooting range, how to hit, how to hold myself, how to walk and basically how to look. I don’t do a ton of fighting in the movie, which is why I wasn’t offered a trainer, but I wanted to look like I had the ability to. And I really just got down and dirty with the character, but then I finally went on set; when you’re about to roll, all the “blubbity blue” you’ve been working on kind of messes with. And you become a little bit detached.”

“The Avengers” opens in AMC theatres on May 4th, 2012.

Tom Hiddleston On Loki In ‘The Avengers’

Though we have seen an influx of videos and stills from the set of Joss Whedon’s epic comic-book ensemble film “The Avengers” very little has been revealed about the film’s central villain, Loki.

Stellan Skarsgård, who plays Professor Erik Selvig in the film, did reveal that (as expected) Loki has taken over control of his characters mind in “The Avengers” though he was unwilling to reveal how that will ultimately play out.

In a recent interview with MTV Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston, was willing to give some insight into his characters nature.

“In ‘The Avengers’ [Loki is] really dark and kind of sociopathic, or maybe even psychopathic is the word, in a deluded way. Obviously I haven’t let go of the spiritual damage at the heart of him, it still comes from that lost place, but he’s just incredibly nasty. I think that probably in ‘Thor 2′ his previous actions will, he’ll have to take responsibility for what he’s done.”

The Actor did hasten to add that the dimension he brought to Loki in “Thor” is still present in “The Avengers” though perhaps not as fully explored.

“The great thing about Loki is there is potential in him for greatness and awfulness, for great heroism and great villainy. There are still, even within ‘The Avengers,’ there are moments where you see within Loki a glimmer of hope and that possibility of redemption. Nobody is black and white, there are shades of gray in all of us. We all have potential for greatness and we all have flaws. I for one am championing the redemption… This isn’t definitely going to happen, but I think there would be nothing more awesome than seeing Loki and Thor fight somebody side by side.”

“The Avengers” comes to AMC theatres on May 4th, 2012.

‘The Avengers’ Set Video

Several new svideo from the set of “The Avengers” have become available online. The clip gives viewers a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the filming of an epic battle between an (as yet indeterminate) enemy (the stuntmen are in motion-capture suits) and Thor in partnership with Captain America.

Its especially fun to watch Chris Hemsworth and Chris Evans chatting and rehearsing between scenes, particularly the moment when “Thor” accidentally drops his hammer.

Take a look at the video but be advised it may contain some spoilers.

Images From‘The Avengers’ Set In Cleveland — Hulk Smash?

Several new photos from the Cleveland set of “The Avengers” have become available.

The Ohio city is standing in for New York City in the film, which seems to have fallen victim to quite a vicious fight. One has to wonder if this is a result of one the Hulk’s enraged outbursts or the combined efforts of The Avengers in a fight for their lives.

Joss Whedon directs a cast that includes Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner.

“The Avengers” comes to AMC theatres on May 4th, 2012.
